As one of the important objectives of economic development is poverty reduction, it is useful to assess China’s situation of poverty and poverty alleviation policies in light of development achievements. This article first considers poverty standards, which in China have still not been made uniform. However, with the advancement of marketization and industrialization, more and more attention is being focused on the impoverished population. The authors make a comparison of poverty in rural and urban areas, and then go on to assess anti-poverty policies before presenting their policy recommendations.
