Editorial note: Rural migrant workers are a new type of work force emerging from the process of China’s reform and opening, industrialization and urbanization. Due to the long-standing dual systems of the city and the countryside, the living conditions of migrant workers in China are far from satisfactory. Drawing on the survey results of 897 migrant workers in Nanchang, the causes of their difficult situation are analysed and policy suggestions are put forward.
