Currently, the independent innovation of China’s enterprises is a common concern of all sectors in Chinese society. But how capable are these enterprises in their independent innovation? Can they become the mainstay of China’s independent innovation? How dependent is the technological advancement of Chinese enterprises upon the introduction of technology? In this essay, the authors answers these questions on the basis of statistics from the first national economic census, which presents to readers a general picture of the innovation capability of Chinese enterprises.
