From a Trading Country to a Trading Power

PEI Chang-hong1 (裴长洪) and LIN Jiang2 (林江)

Editorial note:

China is the world’s third largest trading country. She is, however, not a trading power, in the same way as she is a large manufacturing country but not a manufacturing power. Pei Changhong is an authoritative voice upon China’s international trade. In the following paper, Pei and co-author Lin Jiang explain the features of a trading power as well as why and how China should ameliorate her import and export growth patterns. Their insights are inspirational, providing those of us who follow Chinese foreign trade with plenty to consider.
