Editorial note:
China’s regional inequality is reflected in the different economic structures of the various regions (much the same as with inequality of regional industrialization, described in ‘A Comprehensive Evaluation of Regional Industrialization Levels in China’ by Professor Chen Jiagui), as well as in the inequality of average incomes. This article has analyzed the income inequality of various regions and attempts to explain this phenomenon using human capital factors. The conclusion is highly significant: namely, that China should reduce the income gap in agricultural regions by enhancing education in these areas.
