Land Credit Cooperatives Help Construction of New Countryside

“Building a new socialist countryside is a historic mission in China’s modernization drive”. This mission was enshrined in the Recommendations on
Formulating the Eleventh Five-Year Plan of Economic and Social Development by the CPC Central Committee adopted in October 2005 at the Fifth Session of the Sixteenth Party Congress. Nevertheless, the concept of a “new socialist countryside” must be substantiated with real actions. How should China build a new countryside? This article introduces the experience of Pingluo County of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, where “land credit cooperatives” have been established. Pingluo’s experience may be of particular relevance to the building of a “new socialist countryside”.
